AccountingWEB | Medium Practice of the Year 2018

15 May 2019

Following our success at the Accouting Excellence Awards last year, Green & Co partner, Nick Park, spoke to AccountingWEB about what the win means to us.

Here is a firm with an eye firmly on the post-MTD future, with a wide range of modern services that not only add value but enable clients to achieve their goals.

Proof? Green & Co has added 95 net new clients in the past year, provided more services to existing clients and increased turnover by £80,000. A comprehensive and fully integrated approach to marketing (demonstrably more than any other entrant) was the reason for this.

Using specific, targeted campaigns across different types of media has born fruit whilst a proactive approach to outreach shows the drive to make this strategy work. As well as meeting clients at forums and seminars, in 2017 Green & Co’s staff additionally attended 79 marketing and networking events in the past year.

Add on tangible ways of adding value to clients – see the successful forecasting app it has developed – and Green & Co are a firm set to successfully transition to become a profitable advisory.

How did it feel to win Medium Practice of the Year?

Winning Medium Practice of the Year 2018 was an incredibly proud moment for the partners and staff at Green & Co. Winning the award was the culmination of many years of hard work and striving to be the best accountancy practice we could be. It was a moment that acknowledged the huge commitment made by the partners and staff to deliver a professional value-added service combined with the personal touch of working alongside clients to help them achieve their goals and dreams.

To have the hard work of the team recognised and validated at a national level has been motivating, invigorating and confirmation that we should keep doing what we are doing because we are doing it well!

How has winning the Accounting Excellence Award for Medium Practice of the Year impacted your firm?

As a firm there have been multiple benefits to winning the award. The award gave our existing clients increased confidence in our skills and abilities by the national recognition that our services are award-winning.

Many new clients that have come to us have seen or heard the news that we won Medium Practice of the Year last year. This has been a great conversation point at initial client meetings. Our existing clients were already fantastic at referring us to friends and family but over the past year, 84% of new clients came to us by referral. The award means that clients feel confident to recommend our services. The award has given us a greater reach and we are seeing clients from much further afield now as our reputation grows and our practice goes from strength to strength.

What advice would you give to anyone entering the awards? Or thinking of entering the awards?

Entering the awards is worthwhile because it gives you the opportunity to consider what you are doing and what you could do better. It gives you a benchmark year on year to compare and contrast your performance and the value you are adding to clients, it allows you to review industry standards and how you are performing against those. There is a great sense of satisfaction in having external recognition of the hard work your team puts in day by day and it is a lovely way to reward them for that. There are many marketing opportunities for a firm that is chosen for an award but greater than that is the sense of camaraderie and team building that comes out of celebrating a win!
