Champions Of The Workforce?

30 October 2015

According to a recent poll conducted by Sage UK, over a third (35%) of workers would look for a new job if their employer paid them incorrectly just once. Of the 1,000 employees surveyed as many as 22% had been paid late at some point in the past 12 months.

Traditionally, employees only tend to notice the payroll department when they have a problem with their pay, whereas businesses in the UK spend an average of 8.5 staff hours a month to sort the payroll.

The research highlights the correlation between employer’s ability to pay their staff correctly, and job satisfaction. It found that the relationship between employees and the payroll department strengthened with more effective payroll practices, and enhanced staff morale.

Sage UK payroll expert Jonathan Dowden said: “Many employees underestimate the work that goes into ensuring everyone is paid correctly and on-time, and have little idea of the pressures and difficulties that payroll has to work with. But with payroll proving to be a lynchpin for talent management and staff retention, businesses need to promote payroll as the champions of the workforce,” he added.
