Changes To CIS
Currently 85% of contractors send their CIS returns online to HMRC. With this is mind, from 6 April 2016, everyone will have to send their returns to HMRC online, and paper returns will no longer be accepted.
If you still send your returns to HMRC in paper form, you should have already received letters advising you of the changes, but it is important that you ensure you are set up to send your CIS returns online, to avoid any penalties for non-submission.
HMRC also plan to make a series of other changes to the online system, including the ability to amend returns online and an online message service. Improvements to the online verification service will also be made, as it will be compulsory to verify subcontractors online from April 2017.
