Dutch Cow Cull Good News For UK Dairy Farmers

07 December 2016

A huge Dutch cow cull could mean good news for UK milk prices in the coming months.

As a result of breaching its phosphate limit for the past three years in a row, the government of the Netherlands are desperately attempting to avoid losing their nitrates derogations. The proposals, including over £40m of support for producers, has been submitted to the EU commission and would result in 11% of its national herd, 175,000 cows, being culled.

When you bear in mind that Holland produces 12.5m tonnes of milk per year, this should have some bearing on the prices UK and EU dairy farmers can expect to receive according to ADHB Dairy.
