Farmers Reminded to Register for Waste Exemptions

11 December 2019

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is reminding farmers to register for or renew their waste exemptions.

All farmers who manage waste need to be registered with NRW. The majority, who last registered in late 2016, will now need to renew their exemptions, as registration is valid only for three years. Those farmers carrying out waste operations without a permit or exemption will be committing a criminal offence.

Registering helps ensure that waste is dealt with in ways which is not harmful to the population or the environment. Common activities which need to be registered include things such as building tracks with rubble, stone or woodchip, using tyres on top of silage sheets, using paper bedding or burning hedge cuttings.

Registration is free and should take no longer than 15 minutes at http://www.naturalresources.wales/wasteexemptions
