More Delays For Welsh Farmers Support Scheme
The Welsh Government announced on Monday that its new system of support payments for Welsh farmers will be postponed until 2022.
The Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) was due to be transitioned to a new Land Management Program, but has been consistently delayed as a direct result, say the Government, of the UK’s delayed exit from the EU.
Initially planned to come into effect following the 2019 BPS payment window, the delay now means the earliest the new scheme can be transitioned will be 2022. However, the 2021 BPS payment will rely heavily on the Welsh Government receiving sufficient levels of funding from the next UK Government.
This year only around 75% of farmers are expected to receive their full BPS cash on day one of the payments window, and farmers are being reminded to apply for the BPS Support scheme before the 29 November deadline. The support scheme is an interest-free government loan up to 90% of the BPS claim value.
