Student experiences life as an accountant

05 July 2016

This weeks edition of the South Wales Argus features an article on our summer intern Charlie Walker.

A university student has been afforded the opportunity to experience what life is like at one of south Wales’ busiest accountancy firms.

Charlie Walker, a second year BSc Accounting & Finance student at Cardiff University, is spending this summer with Cwmbran-based Green & Co Accountants and Tax Advisors.

Mr Walker, of Griffithstown, Pontypool, said: “Green & Co is a local, well-organised and award-winning accounting firm with an extremely envious reputation. The experience of the team here is incredible. There are a number of different departments which related to modules I am studying such as taxation and auditing, so the amount I have learnt is not only beneficial to my future career, but it will directly benefit my studies.”

When asked what attracted him to accountancy, Mr Walker said: “It is a very secure career, and there are a range of different roles I could look to explore once my course has finished. It is a challenging career path which motivates me.”

Director Ed Gooderham said: “We are delighted to welcome Charlie. The internship is a programme we actively encourage because we believe that having practical experience pays dividends for students both during their studies and their future career.”

Mr Walker was very specific when asked what he hoped to achieve in the future: “My short-to-mid term aims are to do well in my university course, pass the ACCA exams and become chartered. My long-term aim is to eventually become a partner in a firm.”

Green & Co Accountants and Tax Advisors specialise in business growth and tax minimisation for businesses across Wales and the South West of England.
