What Is an EORI Number?

24 December 2020

From 1 January 2021, you will need an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number to move goods between the UK and both EU and non-EU countries.

Your EORI number should begin with GB. If you already have a number and it doesn’t start with GB, you will need to apply for a new one.

Failure to organise an EORI number could result in increased costs and delays.

If you use a post or parcel company, they’ll tell you if you need an EORI number.

You may have to wait 48 hours to use your EORI number for customs declarations in the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system.
